Worst show you've watched just because it was HD

[Archived in Entry, HDTV]

http://www.hdbeat.com [HD Beat] This is a bit of a spin on our last two questions. We've asked you what shows you want to see in HD and we got some good responses.

Some related posts from Technorati and Google.

[HD For Indies] News Roundup: Apple Blu-Ray, new Kodak film for DI, lots more: Rumors I've personally been told (not just read on some site) indicated that what Apple did with Motion was just a warmup for what they planned to do with Shake. If Shake is EOL'd, that implies a new version SOON, which means that Apple has this tech worked out, which is further supporting evidence that FCP 5 might have some significant power undre the hood...maybe.

A digital recording of my life[A digital recording of my life] Does the Microsoft XBOX team really "get" HD?: I have it on good authority from friends that work at Microsoft that the widescreen bugs that shipped in Halo2 did not appear in the beta that the employees were testing -- they broke it in the last few months (weeks?) of product development. To the Bungie team's credit they fixed it fairly quickly but I wonder if the certification process for XBOX games does not have a lot of tests for HD and I have to wonder if it will be better moving forward.

They can do all the way up to 1080i, and have better contrast than most of the lcds.

[Buyinghdtv.com] HDTV Blog: Sinclair has also been unable to convince smaller cable company Wide Open West to pay for FOX HD, although customers of Insight Communications will be able to see the game under a prior agreement between their cable company and the broadcaster. Sinclair argues that since broadcasting in high-definition costs its stations more money in the form of more expensive equipment, it should be able to recoup some of that investment by imposing subscriber fees on the cable companies that would get passed along to their customers.

HDTVs: Sharper, Bigger, Better

HDTVs have high resolutions that yield incredibly lifelike pictures, wide screens to accommodate the 16:9 aspect ratio of HD programming and DVD movies, and Dolby Digital decoding for theater-quality audio. Here are the choices--flat-panel or projection, you can't go wrong.

Flat-panel LCD TVs: LCD flat-panels offer bright, crisp picture quality, are highly energy-efficient, have 60,000-hour life spans, and come in a range of screen sizes, though all under 50 inches.

Flat-panel plasma TVs: Plasma flat-panels have extremely accurate picture detail, high brightness, wide viewing angles, and large, wall-mountable screens--from 37 to over 60 inches.

Projection TVs: Your big-screen choices are CRT, LCD, DLP, and LCoS. The first two are tried-and-true technologies; DLP and LCoS are hot microdisplay technologies that provide superb picture detail and brightness in lighter-weight cabinets.
