The TiVo-DirecTV split gets closer
[Ed Botts Media Central] DirecTV’s standard DVR, originally set to be released this past June, will be introduced in late October, and another model featuring high-definition service will be introduced in mid-2006. The standard DVR will feature up to 100 hours of recordable space, compared with TiVo’s 70 hours.

[Buyinghdtv.com] 2004 HDTV News Blog Archives: Cox currently uses the Explorer 8000HD DVR in markets where it offers high-definition DVR service, so its likely that it would be the first cable company to deploy the newer 8300HD DVR and its Multi-Room cousin (Comcast uses Motorolas HD-DVR box). However, as it rolls out its HD-DVR service later this summer, Time Warner may elect to skip the older 8000HD DVR and deploy the 8300HD DVR right out of the gate.
[Edn.com] On The Verge - Blog on EDN - 150000015: Of course support wanes and strengthens with these standards each week, as Intel and Microsoft endorsed HD DVD last week (see, “Microsoft and Intel join forces to push HD DVD as industry choice for next-generation optical format”). But one of my previous post hinted at a reason that the two formats might coexists for years.
[Hometheaterblog.com] Home Theater Blog | Home Theater news & reviews: May 2005 Archives: With features like a built in HD-DVR, Gemstar TVGuide, program guide, FireWire capabilities, and more input options than you can shake a stick at, the WD-62825 would be on my shortlist of recommended sets to audition, for those looking for a no compromise home theater display. But theres one more Mitsubishi I want to tell you about.
[Pvrblog.com] Comcast and TiVo seal the deal | PVRblog: Moto doesnt have the incentive to do so (as a matter of fact, it has the direct incentive not to.) TiVo has the opportunity to move beyond the first phase of this technological evolution (pausing a fast forwarding live TV - whoopty %^@#$ing do!) and participate in the most important second phase of this transition, the movement to, as Jeremy Allaire puts it, the “Internet of Video.” This is the giant killer opportunity of this whole adventure, and I think TiVo is trading it in, for large part, because they got confused somewhere along the way about who they were building products for.
