Product Description:

Samsung's 26-inch, 1,280 x 768-resolution LT-P266W LCD television produces strikingly clear images while occupying minimum space in your office, living room, bedroom, or kitchen. Its widescreen aspect ratio and wide, 170-degree viewing angles make sure no seat is a bad seat, especially when the unit is mounted on a wall via its VESA-compliant mounting holes. In addition, the set connects to a personal computer through its RGB (15-pin D-Sub) input, letting you surf the Web, check e-mail, or play QuickTime movies right on your television. Use the split-screen/PC PIP option to view multiple sources simultaneously. Perfect for use with a DTV set-top box or high-definition satellite receiver, or progressive-scan DVD player, the set accepts standard-definition 480i inputs, enhanced-definition 480p signals, and full high-definition 720p and 1080i as well. The set's built-in NTSC stereo tuner is configured to receive the standard 181 channels. And with its high 600:1 contrast ratio, impressive 500 cd/m2 brightness rating, lightning-quick 16 ms response time, and onboard digital comb filter (which separates the color signals to minimize dot crawl and blurred edges), the set renders sharp, focused images that look great regardless of their source. LCD screens offer a number of benefits over CRT monitors and televisions, including general ease of use, freedom from eye strain (no screen flickering or radiation emissions), quiet operation (no high-pitch "flyback" noise, an issue with CRT TVs), accurate image geometry (no curvature distortion or susceptibility to magnetic interference from, say, speakers), long screen life (with no risk of image burn-in), space savings, and light weight/easy positioning. They also tend to be cheaper and, to some eyes, slightly more natural looking than their plasma flat-panel counterparts, which usually "spec" higher (higher brightness, higher contrast ratio). Samsung's DNIe (Digital Natural Image engine) dramatically improves pictures by enhancing the contrast, detail, and white balance while reducing image noise. As with many high-quality TVs, the LT-P266W makes flexibility a top priority, giving you several preset picture and sound modes, including custom settings for each. The TV also provides color temperature adjustment for warm, cool, or neutral tones, along with a trilingual onscreen menu. Additional features include sleep and on timers, V-Chip parental control, closed captioning, and an auto volume leveler to minimize jarring level differences between, say, programs and their commercials. Choose one of several preset sound modes (standard, music, movie, speech, and custom) for broadcast through the built-in 3-watts-per-channel x 2 speaker system. SRS WOW technology simulates surround sound from the set's 2 speakers, while the television's MTS multichannel decoding separates audio signals for stereo reception and broadcasts a second audio program (SAP) when available for multilingual or other applications. To connect the monitor to devices such as DTV set-top boxes, satellite receivers, DVD players, game consoles, or camcorders, use the set's DVI (Digital Visual Interface) for a direct digital connection, or take advantage of its dual high-definition component-video inputs. Other inputs consist of 1 each S-video input, composite-video input, RF input, and the above-mentioned PC input, each with its attendant audio jacks. The DVI-HDTV interface (with HDCP copy protection) enables an all-digital rendering of video without the losses associated with an analog interface. DVI supports up to 24-bit digital RGB data for each pixel for the highest image quality. This DVI-HDTV interface is compatible with HDMI digital feeds by means of an adapter cable (not included). HDTVs: Sharper, Bigger, Better

HDTVs have high resolutions that yield incredibly lifelike pictures, wide screens to accommodate the 16:9 aspect ratio of HD programming and DVD movies, and Dolby Digital decoding for theater-quality audio. Here are the choices--flat-panel or projection, you can't go wrong.

Flat-panel LCD TVs: LCD flat-panels offer bright, crisp picture quality, are highly energy-efficient, have 60,000-hour life spans, and come in a range of screen sizes, though all under 50 inches.

Flat-panel plasma TVs: Plasma flat-panels have extremely accurate picture detail, high brightness, wide viewing angles, and large, wall-mountable screens--from 37 to over 60 inches.

Projection TVs: Your big-screen choices are CRT, LCD, DLP, and LCoS. The first two are tried-and-true technologies; DLP and LCoS are hot microdisplay technologies that provide superb picture detail and brightness in lighter-weight cabinets.
