Product Description:

Big, bold, and beautiful, Samsung's 42-inch HP-P4261 flat-panel gas-plasma display offers bright, brilliant color, extraordinarily high contrast--a ratio of 3,000:1--and high-definition compatibility with HD sources. Its native resolution is 1,024 x 768, there's an RGB PC input, and the set's direct-digital DVI input works with compatible DTV set-top boxes. A built-in analog NTSC tuner and a convenient array of inputs and outputs make set up a snap, and the HP-P4261's widescreen (16:9) display is specially configured to accommodate the native aspect ratios of your favorite movies, either from DVD or from HDTV broadcasts when the set is hooked up to a DTV receiver (not included). With a plasma screen you get vivid colors like you've never seen before, extremely wide viewing angles (wider, even, than those of most LCD screens), and easy placement due to a plasma monitor's slim profile--the HP-P4261 is an astoundingly slim 3.4 inches deep, perfect for desk or wall mounting (the set includes a pedestal stand, pictured). Brightness tends to be extremely uniform across plasma screens, which are also impervious to the picture distortion and negative color balances that afflict CRT monitors when placed near lighting or sound systems. You do, however, need to be wary of image burn-in (wherein long-held stationary images leave a permanent impression in the screen). Samsung DNIe video enhancer (Digital Natural Image engine) enhances all analog NTSC and wideband video inputs for an overall improvement in picture quality. DNIe improves contrast, white level, picture detail, and incorporates digital noise reduction to improve lower-quality video sources. Additional inputs include 2 HD component-video inputs (480p/720p/1080i) as well as 2 S-video, 3 composite-video, and 1 RF. Front-panel inputs accommodate spontaneous hookups with gaming consoles and camcorders. The set also houses stereo speakers powered by a generous 12 watts per channel. SRS TruSurround XT is a patented SRS technology that solves the problem of conveying 5.1-channel surround through 2 speakers, such as those on the TV. TruSurround simulates surround sound through any 2-speaker playback system, including headphones. It's fully compatible with all multichannel formats up to 6.1 channels. The set's 2-tuner picture-in-picture feature (side-by-side, split-screen) grants convenient, simultaneous viewing of 2 TV programs, and a fanless cooling system ensures quiet operation. Optional accessories include a wall-mount kit (WMN4240). What's in the Box TV, pedestal stand, remote control, remote batteries, an RF coaxial video cable, a user's manual, and registration information.

HDTVs: Sharper, Bigger, Better

HDTVs have high resolutions that yield incredibly lifelike pictures, wide screens to accommodate the 16:9 aspect ratio of HD programming and DVD movies, and Dolby Digital decoding for theater-quality audio. Here are the choices--flat-panel or projection, you can't go wrong.

Flat-panel LCD TVs: LCD flat-panels offer bright, crisp picture quality, are highly energy-efficient, have 60,000-hour life spans, and come in a range of screen sizes, though all under 50 inches.

Flat-panel plasma TVs: Plasma flat-panels have extremely accurate picture detail, high brightness, wide viewing angles, and large, wall-mountable screens--from 37 to over 60 inches.

Projection TVs: Your big-screen choices are CRT, LCD, DLP, and LCoS. The first two are tried-and-true technologies; DLP and LCoS are hot microdisplay technologies that provide superb picture detail and brightness in lighter-weight cabinets.
