InFocus ScreenPlay 7210 Review

[Archived in Entry, Infocus]

[HDBlog.net] Projector Central has a review of the InFocus ScreenPlay 7210 DLP projector. It has a resolution of 1280x720 and uses TI’s relatively new DarkChip3 with a contrast ratio of 2800:1. It has a manual focus and zoom, but no DVI or HDMI ports. But it does have an M1-DA port, and you’ll have to buy a DVI to M1-DA adaptor from InFocus for $97 if you want to use DVI. It has a 5x speed 7 segment colour wheel. It retails for $6,999 MSRP.

Some slightly related from Technorati and Google.

[Hifi-writer.com] Hi Fi Writer - Home Entertainment Blog: While I think there'd be more flexibility in cable selections if one could use DVI to DVI, the ready availability of their lead resolves much of the problem. If you're buying an ScreenPlay projector with an M1 input, may I suggest you add the lead as part of your purchase. You may not need it yet but it'd be nice to have when you upgrade your DVD player. Chances are that within two or three years DVI outputs will migrate from being available only on high-end players, to mid-range players, to budget models, just as progressive scan output has largely spread throughout the range.

[Ask.engadget.com] Kevin Kelly Asks Engadget: What’s the best home projector? - Ask ...: It's an XGA DLP model, 1300 lumens IIRC (I've not had any brightness problems), nice and light, and works well. I've got a ViewSonic box to convert component input into d-sub to get TV into the projector - the InFocus has a DVI input but my HD cable box's DVI output only speaks 1080i(!)Works well, nice and cheap (except the $300 apiece bulbs), and it's *great* for playing games on.

HDTVs: Sharper, Bigger, Better

HDTVs have high resolutions that yield incredibly lifelike pictures, wide screens to accommodate the 16:9 aspect ratio of HD programming and DVD movies, and Dolby Digital decoding for theater-quality audio. Here are the choices--flat-panel or projection, you can't go wrong.

Flat-panel LCD TVs: LCD flat-panels offer bright, crisp picture quality, are highly energy-efficient, have 60,000-hour life spans, and come in a range of screen sizes, though all under 50 inches.

Flat-panel plasma TVs: Plasma flat-panels have extremely accurate picture detail, high brightness, wide viewing angles, and large, wall-mountable screens--from 37 to over 60 inches.

Projection TVs: Your big-screen choices are CRT, LCD, DLP, and LCoS. The first two are tried-and-true technologies; DLP and LCoS are hot microdisplay technologies that provide superb picture detail and brightness in lighter-weight cabinets.
