InFocus announces the X3

[Archived in Entry, Infocus]

[Home Theater Blog | Home Theater news & reviews] All of this raises one question, if InFocus can deliver resolutions this high in the X1/4800 chassis, could a re-worked SP4805 be in the wings? Or even the long overdue replacement for the SP5700? If I had to guess I’d say such a projector will likely show up sometime towards the end of summer, keep an eye out.

Some slightly related from Technorati and Google.

When all is said and done, no matter how competent your installer is, they won't have to view movies in it, you will. [Hometheaterblog.com] Home Theater Blog | Home Theater news and reviews: February 2005 ...: One of the biggest differences with the 12S4, over its predecessor, is the inclusion of Texas Instruments DarkChip 3. To get a rough idea of the black levels attainable from the DC3 one would only need to look at the InFocus 4805 (Dark Chip 2 - Lower Resolution), which at nearly one tenth the price of the 12S4 still has very respectable black levels. Now boost the resolution up to 1280x720 and you’re just starting to get an idea of the video performance from TI’s DC3.

HDTVs: Sharper, Bigger, Better

HDTVs have high resolutions that yield incredibly lifelike pictures, wide screens to accommodate the 16:9 aspect ratio of HD programming and DVD movies, and Dolby Digital decoding for theater-quality audio. Here are the choices--flat-panel or projection, you can't go wrong.

Flat-panel LCD TVs: LCD flat-panels offer bright, crisp picture quality, are highly energy-efficient, have 60,000-hour life spans, and come in a range of screen sizes, though all under 50 inches.

Flat-panel plasma TVs: Plasma flat-panels have extremely accurate picture detail, high brightness, wide viewing angles, and large, wall-mountable screens--from 37 to over 60 inches.

Projection TVs: Your big-screen choices are CRT, LCD, DLP, and LCoS. The first two are tried-and-true technologies; DLP and LCoS are hot microdisplay technologies that provide superb picture detail and brightness in lighter-weight cabinets.
