How digital radio and digital TV has temporarily turned my clock back

[Archived in Digital Tv Recording, Entry]

How digital radio and digital TV has temporarily turned my clock back Brian Micklethwait on 2004/01/06:

„I'm pretty sure that I can't record digital TV now, until I get a "TiVo", or whatever those things are called. Recording digital TV on videotape is worse than analogue TV on videotape, because the sound is utter crap.“

DTV and HDTV comparison chart for plasma and flat tv models

„HDTV produces images that far surpass any you've ever seen in a home environment! SDTV, or Standard Definition, also represents a dramatic improvement over today's TV, with the added benefit of allowing stations to broadcast multiple programs within the same bandwidth as an HDTV signal.“

The Digital Home: The Living Room

„HDTV signals are available via broadcast TV and from satellite and cable TV. You need to make sure that your satellite or cable receiver is HDTV-capable to get the signal in all its glory. Besides a signal, to get the benefit of HDTV, you'll need an HDTV-capable set that either has an HDTV receiver built in, or an HDTV-ready set and an HDTV tuner. You'll have a choice of four major TV technologies: CRT, plasma, LCD or projection.“

Plasma TV Buying Guide: Why buy from a Direct Authorized Plasma TV Dealer

„It's amazing how two identical-looking plasma TVs can come with such different price tags. The actual price disparity between an EDTV plasma and an HDTV plasma from the same manufacturer can be upwards of $1200. Welcome to the sometimes confusing world of fixed pixel displays, where things are not always what they seem, and one letter (an "h" instead of an "e") can make all the difference, money-wise at least. You'll pay about a thousand dollars more for a plasma unit bearing the "HDTV" distinction, but is this money well spent?“

Home Theater Magazine: Getting the Most From Your HDTV

„Making Room For HDTVNow that your TV is looking its best, you've moved the fridge into the TV room and your loved ones are starting to worry, its time to look at your room. A TVs job is to create light so you can see an image and enjoy that special episode of "MASH" for the 100th time. Unfortunately two other sources create light: room lights and the sun.“

HDTVs: Sharper, Bigger, Better

HDTVs have high resolutions that yield incredibly lifelike pictures, wide screens to accommodate the 16:9 aspect ratio of HD programming and DVD movies, and Dolby Digital decoding for theater-quality audio. Here are the choices--flat-panel or projection, you can't go wrong.

Flat-panel LCD TVs: LCD flat-panels offer bright, crisp picture quality, are highly energy-efficient, have 60,000-hour life spans, and come in a range of screen sizes, though all under 50 inches.

Flat-panel plasma TVs: Plasma flat-panels have extremely accurate picture detail, high brightness, wide viewing angles, and large, wall-mountable screens--from 37 to over 60 inches.

Projection TVs: Your big-screen choices are CRT, LCD, DLP, and LCoS. The first two are tried-and-true technologies; DLP and LCoS are hot microdisplay technologies that provide superb picture detail and brightness in lighter-weight cabinets.
