Compare Prices and Read Reviews on Pioneer SD-533HD5 53 in. Rear Projection HDTV Television at Epinions.com (#)

„Pioneers always had a reputation in the business of being high-quality reliable sets that looked great right out of the box. I read in one of the HDTV forums that WalMart.com had an incredible price on the Pioneer SD533-HD5, and I didn't wait very long before I ordered one. The delivery took almost 2 weeks, but the wait was worth it! With four separate inputs, connecting an HDTV cable box, a DVD player, an HDTV OTA tuner and a VCR was no problem.“

„So, after a few more months of going to various dealers and looking for something that would exceed our personal standards set by the pioneer elite, we found that nothing compared to it. I even registered on some HDTV forums for opinions about which HDTV those who are really into it really thought highly of. Pioneer elite came up numerous times. So we bought it as our anniversary present for us!“

„Your cable and small dish pictures will be presented better on this set mainly as a result of this than with any other manufacturer. The only way I've seen standard definition programming look better is on the Sony Grand Wega LCD TV's after doing some manual, and questionable, tweaks using their service menus to match settings provided by some informed users on various HDTV forums. Pioneer's picture looks great as is.“

„While doing research, I found that one of the best sources of up-to-date information on DLP TVs was the HDTV forums on ecoustics.com; their input proved very helpful in the decision making process.“

HDTVs: Sharper, Bigger, Better

HDTVs have high resolutions that yield incredibly lifelike pictures, wide screens to accommodate the 16:9 aspect ratio of HD programming and DVD movies, and Dolby Digital decoding for theater-quality audio. Here are the choices--flat-panel or projection, you can't go wrong.

Flat-panel LCD TVs: LCD flat-panels offer bright, crisp picture quality, are highly energy-efficient, have 60,000-hour life spans, and come in a range of screen sizes, though all under 50 inches.

Flat-panel plasma TVs: Plasma flat-panels have extremely accurate picture detail, high brightness, wide viewing angles, and large, wall-mountable screens--from 37 to over 60 inches.

Projection TVs: Your big-screen choices are CRT, LCD, DLP, and LCoS. The first two are tried-and-true technologies; DLP and LCoS are hot microdisplay technologies that provide superb picture detail and brightness in lighter-weight cabinets.
