PCWorld.com - TiVo Gets Networked

„TiVo is working with hardware partners and DirecTV to release an HDTV-ready TiVo by the end of 2003. Besides all standard TiVo features, the package will support all of the HDTV standards (480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i). Prices were not announced.“

HDTV-enabled TiVo?

„I'm trying to decide to upgrade from Series 1 to Series 2 to get TivoToGo features, or hold off. I'm hoping for an HDTV TiVo that would work well as the tuner for an HDTV plasma display. From my limited understanding of HDTV, it seems like such a box should not be terribly difficult from a technical perspective -- since the HDTV feed is already digital, it should be easier to save than an analog signal that has to be converted to MPEG. The only big limitation is extra hard drive space.“

HDTV-recording TiVo

„Here's a shot of a standalone HDTV TiVo . Here's a photo of the front of a DirecTV/HDTV/TiVo device, and here's a photo of the rear hookups for the same unit, though there are rumors the production units will have DVI connectors as well.“

onhometheater.com - Ask Us Archives

„  I'm not interested in buying everything multiple times. I'm going with DirecTV, but what I really want is a HDTV/TiVo/DVD recorder all in one box. At the least I want the HDTV/TiVo receiver combined. As much as I would like a DVD recorder, I just can't see dropping $1000 on one of those nice new Pioneer TiVo/DVD units when they won't do anything for my HDTV needs.  How long will I have to wait until my dreams come true?“

HDTVs: Sharper, Bigger, Better

HDTVs have high resolutions that yield incredibly lifelike pictures, wide screens to accommodate the 16:9 aspect ratio of HD programming and DVD movies, and Dolby Digital decoding for theater-quality audio. Here are the choices--flat-panel or projection, you can't go wrong.

Flat-panel LCD TVs: LCD flat-panels offer bright, crisp picture quality, are highly energy-efficient, have 60,000-hour life spans, and come in a range of screen sizes, though all under 50 inches.

Flat-panel plasma TVs: Plasma flat-panels have extremely accurate picture detail, high brightness, wide viewing angles, and large, wall-mountable screens--from 37 to over 60 inches.

Projection TVs: Your big-screen choices are CRT, LCD, DLP, and LCoS. The first two are tried-and-true technologies; DLP and LCoS are hot microdisplay technologies that provide superb picture detail and brightness in lighter-weight cabinets.
