„(Blacks rule!) But while the absolute blacks are getting better with newer DLPs, I haven’t seen as big an increase in actual resolving power near black. While I like the increased dynamics for sure, even the most dynamic digital projectors like the Marantz aren’t yet in the CRT neighborhood of natural, smooth resolution of detail near black. While the Marantz has deeper blacks and a better contrast ratio, the SIM2, perhaps due to its more CRT-like gamma curve, moved down into black in a more seamless way, and produced an image that I found to be slightly more film-like, and certainly more reminiscent of the time I’ve spent with CRT front projectors.“

„In the case of a 1,280-by-720 DMD like the HD2+ chip, that mirror is actually made up of 921,600 separate mirrors that are too small for the naked eye to see (photos 2 and 3). As with other digital displays, DLP is a fixed-pixel technology, so all video sources must be processed in order for the signal to address the individual mirrors and create a picture. When the lamp's light strikes the chip, the video processing tells certain mirrors to pivot—either toward another set of lenses and out to the screen or away from the screen, into a light absorber (see photo 4). A DLP display creates differences in the image's gray scale (different levels of light and dark) by pivoting the mirrors at a high rate of speed.“

Not only that, but it's a very bright product, with an impressive rating of 1,100 ANSI lumens.“

„I went to Best Buy yesterday to purchase a hard drive and happened to walk over to the flat screen area .I walked directly up on the Samsung 5065W DLP and was thrown back by it, my first concern was did it have a PC input and it did after spinning it around to take a look at the back. I started comparing it to the other TVs around it and could not beleive the clarity, brightnes and deep dark tone definition superiority to the others. I went over and looked at the LCD's as I originally wanted a flat screen but after looking at them all I found that you could see the pixles when up close on all of them but when I took a very close look at the Samsung it was amazing .“

The HT200 DMF employs three small ones rather than a single large one, which does make it quieter than most. However, there's no getting around it: All DLP projectors generate noise and even though the SIM2 is pretty quiet as these things go, if you are bothered by any noise added to your room, this will bug you.“
