[The Blackfriars Blog] VLSI Research analyst Risto Puhakka says the AKT-50K will give TV makers the ability to make HDTVs in bigger numbers, which will lower their costs. That, in turn, should reduce retail prices and spark more sales.

[atmaspheric | endeavors] Cablecard delivers a superior picture (no cable box compression) and the 2.0 version will give you two-way control so you won’t need a box for VOD or enhanced services if your provider supports this function. It’s also good news for third party DVR makers like TIVO and will hopefully be the path to HDTV on HTPC’s like MCE.

[The Blackfriars Blog] Microsoft said it would only confirm three titles for XBox 360's launch in Europe: Kameo: Elements of Power and Perfect Dark Zero by Rare, a UK-based games maker owned by Microsoft, and Project Gotham Racing 3 from the game studio Blizzard Creations. Now to be fair, there are other games that are nearing completion that are being held up by ratings reviewers, but it just shows the challenge of trying to launch a new platform on an aggressive schedule to beat out a competitor.

[Ed Bott’s Media Central] DirecTV’s standard DVR, originally set to be released this past June, will be introduced in late October, and another model featuring high-definition service will be introduced in mid-2006. The standard DVR will feature up to 100 hours of recordable space, compared with TiVo’s 70 hours.

[HD Beat] Using analog cable I'm perfectly happy as long as it isn't the digital crap I'm getting from my cable company. I can't see anything new with HDTV, such as beads of sweat or anything with sports (not that I watch sports other than HD comparison)

[HD Beat] Panasonic plasmas have been all the news this week by dropping their plasmas up to a $1,000, bring out 4 new models including that bad-ass 65-inch 1080p model, and then saying that they are going to triple the amount of plasmas in Europe. Today they are showing off their new 8th generation professional series.
